MONTREAL- Cedric Joseph is running in his father's footsteps.

Last year he was named Most Valuable Player for the North Shore Bantam AAA Lions, capping off the football team's perfect season by rushing for 234 yards and scoring two touchdowns in their final game.

Now he's playing Midget AAA for the North Shore Mustangs, and his coach likes what he sees.

"He's got fantastic forward lean so it's always positive yardage. He's got a great dip step. And he makes guys miss," said Jay Jourdenais.

Running with the football comes naturally for Cedric, and playing since he was six years old has given him an eye for the field.

"People say I have good vision," said Cedric. "If the defense adjusts to one thing, I'm going to switch over to the next thing, and then once they form into that, I'm going to go back to the beginning and it's just mind games throughout the whole course of the game."

According to his high school coach, Cedric has what it takes to be a running back in the big leagues.

"He pays attention to detail, he wants to run with the ball. He has fun with it.," said Michael Burgess. "When you have fun you're always a good football player."

Cedric gets his love of the game from his father, who drafted by the CFL, but never got to play a single game.

"I got drafted by the Toronto Argos in 1989, but unfortunately I tore my hamstring so I couldn't practice or play with the team," said Derrick Joseph.

Still a teenager, Cedric is hoping to succeed where his father did not.

"It's been my dream to take football to the highest level, which is pro. NFL, CFL it doesn't matter," said Cedric.

Those professional dreams will have to wait. Cedric has to finish high school first.
