MONTREAL- Allison Frantz only took up track and field events four years ago, but she's already competing at a national level.

This year the 15-year-old broke three provincial records, and she's the top-ranked high jumper in her age group in Quebec.

"My first track meet, I won all gold medals. So I thought, 'this is a lot of fun, I like this,'" said Allison.

Her favourite event is running and jumping over hurdles.

"In the past year or so, I've been focusing more on training and I've been wanting to do better and it's been showing in my performances. And that's a good life lesson in general. If you work hard then you can achieve big things," said Allison.

She works hard as a member of the St. Laurent Select track club, and knows that exercising her body can help her thinking as well.

When I'm stressed out for a test or something, I'll read over my stuff and I'll go for a run," said Allison. " It makes me less stressed out and calms me down so I can study harder when I get back."

Her coach, Jelena Lalic, says she has a great work ethic.

"She has a lot of talent. But the people who make it in this sport are the people who train hard, who are mentally hard and who want to improve, and Allison is just that," said Lalic.

With her talent, Allison is pushing hard to compete at an international level, and expects to challenge tougher athletes in the years to come.
