MONTREAL -- A Quebec family whose therapy pet wandered off a few weeks ago finally found the critter.

The four-foot iguana named Slush went missing near his Saint-Lin-Laurentides home after wriggling out of his harness at the end of May.

Slush's owner, a 15-year-old boy named Tommy, had ducked out of the yard with his mother for a few minutes and when they came back, Slush was gone.

"He's doing very well and tomorrow, we'll take him to the vet," Marie-Josée Bouvier, Tommy's mother, told CTV News on Thursday. "A young woman called us because she found him."

Tommy's friends and family had asked for the public’s help to find Slush.

“The poor little guy,” said family friend Vanessa Gingras when Slush went missing. “They’ve been searching day in, day out… I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Saint-Lin-Laurentides. When I say rural, (their) whole street, which is super long – there’s three houses.”

Behind the family’s home is a massive forest, where they figured the iguana may have headed when he ventured off.

“He sleeps in a bassinet, with his blankey and with a stuffed animal,” Gingras said. “Marie-Josée put his bassinet on the front walkway… Hoping that he’ll come to that.”

SLUSH

The family was worried they'd have a hard time finding Slush if the weather stayed cool, as iguanas become dormant when they lack heat.

“If it’s not warming up enough, he’s just going to stay still,” Gringas said at the time. “If it’s warm enough, he will go try to find somewhere that’s a bit of open area to bask.”

People all around the world had donated to the family so they could offer a reward to the person who found the reptile.

Though Slush didn't return to his bassinet on his own, he's back with his family now.
