QLP leadership race: a fourth MNA backs Charles Milliard
The Liberal MNA for the Acadie riding, André A. Morin, announced his support for party leadership candidate Charles Milliard on Friday.
Morin becomes the fourth to endorse the former president of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec.
At the beginning of October, Virginie Dufour (Mille-Îles), André Fortin (Pontiac) and Madwa-Nika Cadet (Bourassa-Sauvé) announced that they were joining Milliard.
Milliard can pride himself on having the most support within the caucus for now.
"André Morin's arrival is a great source of pride for our team. His outstanding law expertise combined with his keen sense of public service and the rule of law make him an invaluable asset," Milliard said in a news release on Friday.
"He embodies the very essence of the values we wish to promote in this race: competence, humanism and proximity," he added.
More and more elected Liberals are positioning themselves in the leadership race.
Former federal minister Pablo Rodriguez has so far received the support of Désirée McGraw (Notre-Dame-de-Grâce), Linda Caron (La Pinière) and Michelle Setlakwe (Mont-Royal-Outremont).
Chomedey MNA Sona Lakhoyan Olivier has given her support to her colleague from Marguerite-Bourgeoys, Frédéric Beauchemin.
The other two declared candidates, former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre and tax lawyer Marc Bélanger, still have no support within the caucus.
The leadership race officially begins in January 2025. The new party leader will be chosen in the summer.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French Dec. 13, 2024.
