LONGUEUIL - Pratt & Whitney Canada is spending $275 million over five years to create a research and development centre that will create 90 jobs and include work on the aircraft engine maker's next-generation motor.
Three new production lines will be devoted to making key components of its PurePower engine, which recently powered the first flight of Bombardier's new CSeries jet.
The company says the engine is known for its energy efficiency, fewer emissions and noise reduction.
The Quebec government says it's contributing $19 million of the $275 million toward modernizing the plant in Longueuil, just south of Montreal.
The government also says the overall investment will keep 166 jobs already in Quebec at the Pratt & Whitney plant.
