MONTREAL- After Quebec construction magnate Tony Accurso was arrested earlier this week, Paul Karwatsky sat down with CTV Montreal's political panel to go over what was a raucous week in Quebec politics.

The main question was this: can Jean Charest's Liberals benefit from the arrests, especially with some predicting an election this spring.

"This can't be a coup for the Charest government because every day you talk about corruption and lack of integrity on the front pages, especially when you've been in power for nine years, you get affected by it," said political columnist Jean Lapierre.

"This is one of the problems that Charest has now," agreed The Gazette's Don Macpherson. "People say that he has to worry about the hearings of the Charbonneau Inquiry in the fall, he also has to worry about disclosures being made by the news media, that continues to go on, and now he has to worry about arrests of people close to the Liberal party.

"This was not a good week for the Liberal Party."

Both agree that a spring election seems unlikely.
