Police shoot man following standoff in Jonquiere
Sureté du Quebec officers have shot a man in Jonquiere, near Saguenay, where man had barricaded himself inside a home.
Police say the man robbed a pharmacy on Friday evening, then barricaded himself in a nearby home when witnesses informed police of his location.
Officers evacuated other homes in the area, saying that shortly after midnight the man had shown them what they believed to be a homemade explosive device.
Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday police used a battering ram to force their way into the house and confronted the man.
Police shot the suspect at least once and was rushed to hospital in Chicoutimi in critical condition.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man, is believed to have robbed several other pharmacies in the region in recent weeks.
