MONTREAL – Montreal police have launched a campaign to educate pedestrians and cyclists on the importance of keeping a safe distance from heavy vehicles on the roads.
On Friday, another cyclist suffered serious injuries after slipping under the wheels of a truck turning right at a downtown Montreal intersection. Last year, 12 pedestrians and six cyclists were killed in collisions in the Montreal area.
The campaign “100% vigilant” runs until 25 May under the theme “I make sure to see, hear and be seen.”
The SPVM is therefore conducting various operations to prevent and control collisions in the region. They say every road user is responsible for their own conduct and safety, but also that of others on the road, pointing to the fact that pedestrians and cyclists are obviously the most vulnerable during a collision.
