Search and rescue crews working overnight in Valleyfield got into trouble overnight, and had to be pulled from the frigid waters of the St. Charles river.

Three firefighters and two police officers had been patrolling the river in a small boat for several hours when their Zodiac capsized around 5:15 a.m.

They spent up to 20 minutes swimming before someone on land was able to pull them to safety.

All five were treated for hypothermia and are expected to recover.

They were examining the river and its banks overnight because of reports of a body. Apparently several children playing on shore on Thursday spotted a body and unsuccessfully tried to pull it out of the water.

They only told their parents much late at night, and they informed the Surete du Quebec around midnight.

There is no sign this body has been located.
