A 44-year-old man remains in critical condition after being hit by a car and dragged in NDG Saturday afternoon.

The man was crossing the street at Monkland Ave. at 4:30 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle heading south on Rosedale Ave.

The 83-year-old driver had stopped at a stop sign on the corner and then continued through the intersection when the pedestrian was hit.

The car continued moving dragging the man down the street before finally stopping.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition and underwent tests overnight.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined; an investigation has been opened. According to preliminary observations by police, it seems neither the pedestrian nor driver committed an offence.

The elderly driver met with police officers, who are also at the scene to determine what transpired.

Monkland was closed during the invesitgation, said Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
