Motorists in Cote-Des-Neiges-NDG and the Southwest borough are in for some extra traffic as roadwork began Monday on two streets.

St-Jacques is partially closed between St-Remi and De Courcelle due to work on the new Turcot Interchange. The street will remain closed until July. Traffic heading west will be reduced to one lane.

"For drivers in the area, there are other possibilities," said Transport Quebec spokesperson Sarah Bensadoun. "It's mostly a local network... there will be detours in place."

Monkland Ave. will be closed between Girouard and Decarie while Bell carries out work on its underground infrastructure. That work is expected to take four weeks.

"That, I fear, will put a lot of extra pressure on Cote-St-Luc and Decarie which is an intersection that really cannot take any more traffic," said traffic consultant Rick Leckner.
