MONTREAL - The wife of the former head of the MUHC will be behind bars for the weekend, as Pamela Mattock Porter's next court date has been set for Monday in Montreal.

Crown Prosecutor Marie-Helene Giroux persuaded a judge not to allow Pamela Porter to be released while she awaits charges of money-laundering in connection with the building of the MUHC superhospital.

Pamela Mattock Porter and her husband Arthur Porter have been in jail in Panama for more than two weeks, following their arrest on May 27

While Arthur Porter is fighting extradition to Canada his wife decided not to, and was flown from Panama to Toronto overnight, then to Montreal in the early morning hours.

She arrived at Surete du Quebec headquarters in Montreal around 7 a.m. Friday.

Arthur Porter and his accomplices are accused of taking $22.5 million in kickbacks from SNC Lavalin in exchange for the $1.3 billion contract to build the superhospital at the Glen Yards.

Pamela Mattock Porter is accused of laundering at least part of that money.

Arther, who is behind bars at La Joya penitentiary in Panama, faces charges of breach of trust, defrauding the government, accepting bribes and money-laundering.

His lawyer contends Porter's arrest was illegal because he had diplomatic immunity from his native Sierra Leone.
