Driver rescued from Rideau River after vehicle fell through ice

Ottawa Fire Services says one person has been rescued after their vehicle fell through ice on the Rideau River in Osgoode in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Firefighters say they received a call at 3:35 a.m. from the Ottawa Police Service, reporting a vehicle had fallen through ice in the 1900 block of River Road.

When crews arrived at the scene, they confirmed there was a vehicle in the water. Firefighters note that the lights of the vehicle were visible, and that the driver was still inside.

Firefighters pulled and rescued the driver by 3:55 a.m.

They were treated for hypothermia and transported to hospital in stable condition, according to the Ottawa Paramedic Service.
