The opposition Liberals and CAQ are expressing concern with the PQ government’s economic guidance following a rise in unemployment in Quebec.
The unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percent in July to reach 8.2 percent, which represents a loss of 30,400 jobs, according to calculations released Friday by Statistics Canada.
In contrast, Ontario saw its unemployment rate decrease to 7.6 percent during the same period.
The Liberals blame the Marois minority government.
Since the beginning of 2013, 40,000 jobs have been lost in Quebec, while over 80,000 were created in the rest of Canada, and over 20,000 created in Ontario alone.
"It is a sad record. It is clear that since they came to power in September, the PQ have caused significant damage to the economy,” wrote Liberal MNA Sam Hamad in a press release.
The CAQ also expressed dissatisfaction with the numbers, as MNA Christian Dubé noted that three quarters of all jobs lost in Canada during July were lost in Quebec.
He noted that Quebec has only created 800 jobs since the PQ came in power, which he said was 100 times less than Ontario, which created 76,700 during that same period.
