Police have made one arrest following the shooting death of a young man in a show bar on Park Ave. early Saturday morning.

A 23-year-old man is dead, while a 21-year-old woman is injured after the shooting inside Cabaret du Mile-End at 5240 Park Ave.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the Mile End shooting, but no charges have been laid so far.

Police say they were called to the scene after gunshots were fired inside the venue on Park near Fairmount St. at 2:40 a.m.

Musical group Koneksyon was launching its album Friday night at the show bar.

They arrived to find the two victims, who were rushed to hospital, said Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture.

The man was shot at least once in the upper body; he was declared dead in hospital. The woman also sustained upper body injuries, but her life is not in danger.

The suspect was arrested in a car a few blocks from the scene. Police were led to him from witnesses, who provided the information some 10 minutes after they arrived. Witnesses told police that moments after the shooting, the suspect got into his car and drove away.

The weapon has so far not been recovered. Police spent the day Saturday reviewing security footage and speaking with witnesses, trying to determine a motive and track down the weapon.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to face murder charges in court on Monday, said police.

Park Ave. was closed in both directions throughout the morning from St-Viateur to Fairmount Sts. as major crime investigators searched the scene.

It is the 9th homicide of the year in Montreal.
