MONTREAL - A man, aged 35, was killed by gunshot in the parking lot outside of the Galeries d'Anjou in east end Montreal Friday evening, while a second gunshot victim, aged 33, suffered less serious wounds.
The gunshots were reported around 6:50 p.m. and witnesses later told police that the suspects, two black men, were seen walking away after shooting what was reportedly between four and six shots.
A champagne-coloured, late-model SUV was seen in the parking lot with a bullet hole in the driver's side window, suggesting that the driver of the vehicle was shot in his car, but a police representative could not confirm that detail.
The other gunshot victim, who was apparently with the other victim, was less-badly injured and was able to walk into the mall into a restaurant.
One diner named Line Durand said that the injured man was bleeding and was headed swiftly to the bathroom. She informed the waitress who then alerted authorities.
The two injured individuals, both in their thirties, both known to police, were brought to hospital for treatment but one victim was pronounced dead at about 7:30 p.m.
The parking lot outside the Baton Rouge restaurant was full of cars at the time but nobody else was hurt in the shooting.
By some coincidence, one shopper leaving the mall minutes after the shooting also narrowly missed this summer's shootings at the Eaton Centre in Toronto, which occurred just as he was on his way to visit.
"I guess I'm just kind getting used to the idea that we're going to have to get used to these occurrences more often," said Derek Wills.
The Galeries d'Anjou is a large shopping mall of over 100 stores about 20 minutes drive east of downtown.
