Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of southern Quebec. As of right now, Montreal is facing a thunderstorm watch:
The warning, as of 7:42 p.m. is in effect for:
- Témiscouata
- the Eastern Townships
- Kamouraska - Rivière-du-Loup - Trois-Pistoles
- Rimouski - Mont-Joli
Environment Canada warns the weather systems can produce very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain."
Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm watch is in place for the following areas:
- Beauce
- Charlevoix
- Drummondville - Bois-Francs
- La Tuque
- Lac-Saint-Jean
- Lanaudière
- Laurentians Wildlife Reserve
- Les Escoumins - Forestville
- Maurice
- Metro Montréal - Laval
- Montmagny - L'Islet
- Richelieu Valley - Saint-Hyacinthe
- Saguenay
- Quebec City
- Vaudreuil - Soulanges - Huntingdon
Conditions are favourable for strong and potentially damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain.
The news is coupled with a smog warning issued in parts of the province. The smog is a result of ongoing forest fires in Ontario and Manitoba.
