MONTREAL - Jacques Delisle, a former Quebec City Appeals Court judge who was found guilty of murdering his wife, is not getting bail.
An appeals court justice ruled today that Jacques Delisle must stay behind bars pending an appeal of last month's conviction.
A jury found Delisle guilty of shooting Nicole Rainville to death in 2009.
The 77-year-old Delisle is believed to be the first Canadian judge to be convicted of first-degree murder.
Quebec Court of Appeal Justice Richard Wagner ruled today that Delisle cannot be released.
Lawyer Jacques Larochelle, who is representing Delisle, told Wagner earlier this week that his client is not a flight risk, is not a danger to reoffend, that he had a blemish-free past and that he took care of Rainville for years.
