Laval police are investigating a murder in the Chomedey district that has left some residents uneasy at what they feel is a growing level of violence in the neighbourhood.

A man called 911 around 6 a.m. Monday to say that a woman was lying in a parking lot at Levesque St. at the corner of 87th Ave.

When police arrived they found the body of the woman, in her 30s, outside Nettoyeur Gratton, a dry-cleaning business.

The owner of the business, who lives upstairs, looked out the window and saw the woman lying on the ground, said police.

Her upper body showed marks of violence, but officers won't say how she was killed.

Police say they have no idea how she ended up there.

"We don't have any information about what happened before. (The business owner) just woke up and saw the body of a woman," said Sgt. Franois Dumais of the Laval police.

Officers and investigators set up a command post and spent the morning scouring the area and gathering evidence.

Resident spooked

It's the seventh murder in Laval this year and the third in Chomedey - a fact that has some people in the area worried.

"It's not easy," George Namroud told CTV News. "It's not something you can digest that easily, to have two murders within a month just about a kilometre away from each other."

On July 13, a 39-year-old man was shot in broad daylight and later succumbed to his injuries. No one has been arrested in the case.

Police say the man had links to organized crime, and the investigation has been taken over by the Sret du Qubec.

Namoud said that if the violence continues, he might consider moving out of town.
