The motive behind the murder of two south-shore men last January at a McDonald's restaurant in NDG may have been a drug deal gone bad.

Two of the three men arrested in relation to the shootings of two south-shore men with the double slaying were back in Montreal court on Thursday.

But brothers Timothy Simpson, 44, and Robert, 47, don't yet have a lawyer to represent them. They were arrested in Halifax earlier this year, along with Jeffrey Lynds, 42.

Crown prosecutor Elaine Perreault said it could be a while before the case moves forward.

In January, Kirk Murray, 47, was found dead in the parking lot of the McDonald's at the intersection of St. Jacques and Ste. Anne de Bellevue.

Soon after police found Anthony Onesi, 51, in a car rolling down a snow-covered hill toward St. Jacques.

Onesi was still alive when found and rushed to hospital, but died en route.

Insider sources told CTV Montreal that Murray was involved in a drug deal in Halifax. But when it was time for him to get paid, his partners decided to keep the money, and simply got rid of him.

Police always suspected Murray was the intended target because of his criminal past, and that Onesi was simply an innocent bystander in the attack.
