MONTREAL - A 20-year-old man is dead after being shot near Kent Park in Cote-des-Neiges.

Around 9:50 p.m. Thursday people living near the park called police after hearing several gunshots.

Officers arrived at Appleton Ave. near Hudson to find a young man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics rushed him to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Witnesses were able to describe a SUV, believed to be a Lincoln Navigator, seen fleeing the scene and later in the evening a Surete du Quebec patrol spotted a vehicle matching that description near an entrance to the Ville Marie Expressway.

According to Simon Delorme, the car was pulled over for another infraction.

"Actually it was another crime. They followed the car on the 20 direction East and at the height of Angrignon they saw the vehicle commit a crime. So at this point they said okay, we're going to pull over this man and talk with him a little bit - at least with the driver. But everything, all the links was done later on during the interception."

All four occupants, aged 23 and 32, were taken in for questioning in relation to the murder.

The murder, the tenth on the island in 2013, took place less than three hours after an unrelated murder in Saint-Laurent.

Homicide detectives had only one other murder to investigate since the start of February, nonetheless the murder total remains on pace with last year's total.
