The Mordecai Richler gazebo on the flanks of Mount Royal has already been vandalized.

This past weekend someone spray painted the wooden base of the structure.

It has since been cleaned up.

The city said graffiti is inevitable, but it will step up police patrols in the area.

The gazebo was a nightmare for the city to rebuild.

The project was initally supposed to take a few months.

Because of lead paint and the structure's designation as a heritage item, it ended up costing three quarters of a million dollars to repair.

The gazebo has yet to be officially inaugurated.
