A 40-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a semi-trailer truck with a flatbed in Montreal's Lachine borough Tuesday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) says it received multiple 911 calls at 6 p.m. about a collision at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Montreal-Toronto Boulevard.

Officers found the unconscious woman and performed CPR. She was then transported to hospital. The driver had left the scene before police arrived.

According to preliminary information, the truck was waiting at a red light eastbound on Montreal-Toronto Boulevard while the woman was on foot between two lanes near the vehicle.

Police say once the light turned green, the truck hit the pedestrian.

Police say it is too early to determine why the pedestrian was in the traffic lanes or whether it was a hit-and-run.

The investigation is ongoing.
