Montreal -

A Montreal police officer was sent to hospital with serious injuries following an attack at a residence Wednesday, CTV News has confirmed.

The officer was attacked as he arrived Wednesday afternoon to the LaSalle residence to deliver a subpoena, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The suspect fled the scene and the officer went to his vehicle to contact 911, a police spokesperson said.

Police said the officer's injuries are not life-threatening and he was released from hospital Wednesday night.

No arrests have been made and police say it's too early in the investigation to comment on the motive for the assault.
