A 45-year-old man is facing 15 charges linked to a spectacular bank robbery in Outremont Friday.

Alain Sainte-Marie was arrested early Tuesday morning by Longueuil police officers and was transferred to the Montreal police force. He faces charges including conspiracy, robbery and using a fake gun to commit a crime.

A passerby called police after noticing a suspicious man sitting in a car in a Longueuil parking lot.

Police patrolling the area around midnight apprehended the man as a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

“Police located this man, managed to identify him as Alain Sainte-Marie, 45 years old,” said Montreal police Const. Andre Leclerc.

Police say two suspects robbed a bank on Bernard Ave. near Hutchison at 11:30 a.m. Friday morning, then fled in a taxi.

That taxi rushed south on Park Ave. and then turned east on St. Viateur, colliding with another vehicle near St. Urbain.

Police said a woman suffered minor injuries in that crash but nobody else was hurt in the robbery or the collision.

Genevieve Dallaire, 35, was arrested at the scene of the crash.

She was arraigned Saturday on charges of armed robbery.

The second suspect took off on foot. The emergency response team conducted searches of backroads in Mile End but were unable to locate the suspect.

Sainte-Marie was already wanted in connection with another robbery, which took place on Aug. 18. The suspect has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1992. He was once involved in a prison breakout in late 2007 at Bordeaux jail.

Prosecutor Marie-France Drolet said the Crown will oppose bail for both suspects for “the protection of the public as well as the confidence of the public in the justice system,” she said.

The two accused will face a bail hearing Wednesday. Police will not divulge how much money was stolen during the robbery. If the suspects are found guilty they could face a maximum of life in prison.
