Highway 40 westbound at St. Michel was closed Tuesday afternoon after police shot a man in the leg following a break-in in Rosemont.

Police responded to a break and entry call at 4 p.m. and after being provided a description of the car and the suspect, quickly located the vehicle, said Montreal police Const. Anie Lemieux.

As police attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver set off on Highway 40. A second police car stopped the suspect, and gunshots were fired by police at the suspect, said Lemieux.

The man, in his 40s, was shot in the leg. His life is not in danger, said Lemieux.

"Investigators are on their way to try to determine the exact circumstances of how this all happened," said Lemieux shortly after the incident.

Highway 40 is closed off westbound at the St Michel exit. Drivers are being detoured via the service road there.
