Elections Quebec has issued a correction to an article that appeared Friday morning in Le Soleil and online at La Presse.

In the article an Elections Quebec spokesperson is quoted as saying the agency would immediately prepare to hold a referendum in the event the Parti Quebecois won a majority in the April 7 election.

On Friday morning Elections Quebec issued a statement that it was not up to the electoral office to prepare for hypothetical situations.

Chief Electoral Officer Jacques Drouin wrote that the article "does not reflect the views of the Chief Electoral Officer. The CEO offers his apologies to voters and the population for any confusion the declarations may have created."
