The file of a Montreal police officer who threatened to tie a homeless man to a pole in sub-zero weather will be handled by the department internally.

A video of the incident was widely distributed after it was posted on Facebook last Thursday.

Police spokesperson Ian Lafreniere confirmed that the officer met with his superior on Friday, and there will be a disciplinary follow-up this week.

Any disciplinary measures against the officer will not be made public, though he said last week they could range from a verbal warning to a few days’ suspension.

Lafreniere said the officer in question is considered a good police officer and will face the consequences of his words.

He said the department disapproves the words the officer used at the end of the intervention, but not the intervention itself.
