The mayor of Montreal's largest borough is officially joining Denis Coderre.

Russell Copeman, who was elected three years ago as the mayor of CDN-NDG, announced Friday he would be joining Team Denis Coderre.

Copeman was elected as part of the now almost-defunct Coalition Montreal, the party that was helmed by Marcel Coté, the mayoral candidate who died in 2014.

He was, however, named a member of the city's Executive Committee

Coalition Montreal candidates did well in several parts of the city, with residents of CDN-NDG electing three members of the party including Copeman.

Many have since left to join other political parties -- a tactic that is extremely common in municipal politics in Montreal -- and with Copeman's departure, only four Coalition councillors remain.

One of them, Real Menard, has said he will be joining Team Coderre for the 2017 election, while the Coalition will not run any candidates under its banner.
