A 26-year-old man was stabbed in the upper body Saturday night while trying to intervene during an armed robbery in St. Michel.

The man tried to stop a group of would-be thieves from stealing a woman’s cell phone at about 10:30 p.m. on Legendre St. near 15th Ave.

A group of men approached the woman as she was on the phone with a family member, and tried to take her phone.

The family member at the other end of the line was inside a home close to the scene of the crime, and came outside to help, said police.

One of the suspects stabbed the man in the upper body. He was taken to hospital, and is expected to survive.

The woman was not injured.

The suspects fled the scene. Police are seeking them.
