MONTREAL—Franklin Bencosme Lora, 46, appeared by teleconference in the Montreal courthouse on Saturday, he was charged with the second degree murder of his wife, Lluvia Esther Ramirez Gomez.

Early Friday morning, Montreal police found Gomez dead in their Papineau Ave. apartment in the Villeray district—the seventh murder on the island in 2013. The woman in her 30s had suffered multiple stab wounds; Gomez was at the apartment when police arrived.

According to police, the slaying took place at around 2:30 a.m. Two children were in the apartment at the time.

Lora will remain in custody until he appears before the court later next week.
