Montreal's Just for Laughs comedy museum is closing down after more than 17 years.

Opened in 1993 to build on Montreal's world-renowned Just for Laughs summer festival, the operation was losing too much money on upkeep on the building, said museum officials.

It will close Jan. 1 after hosting more than two million visitors.

The museum on St. Laurent Blvd. near Sherbrooke St. included two concert venues for comedians, musical acts and performers.
