As far as video game characters go, Mayor Denis Coderre is no Super Mario but nevertheless, Montreal’s leader is the star of new online game Escape From Montreal.
The game allows players to guide the mayor, who is sporting a Habs jersey, as he leaps over massive potholes on a Bixi.
“I put Coderre on the screen on a Bixi and I made him jump,” said designer Jory Braun. “From that point on I was just hooked. I really needed to keep going with it and it just kept growing and growing.”
Braun swears that he means no disrespect to the mayor and that the game is meant to have fun with the mayor, not laugh at him.
“I love the man, I think he’s a very, very cut man,” he said. “He’s got a great face, he’s loveable, he’s charismatic. Aside from the pollution and the dumping of the poo into the river, I have nothing against him.”
The game took Braun about a month to design in his spare time and despite good word-of-mouth, said he won’t make any money off it.
