As the murder trial of Richard Henry Bain entered its second day on Friday, police investigators described the large arsenal he brought with him to Metropolis on the eve of 2012’s provincial election.

When Bain was arrested following the shooting that killed technician Denis Blanchette and injured Dave Courage, he was carrying a semi-automatic rifle and a loaded pistol.

In his car, which was parked near the venue where the Parti Quebecois was holding their election-night celebration, police found another loaded rifle, a loaded Beretta pistol, a machete, a knife with a 10-inch blade, a bullet-proof vest, three magazines loaded with 20 to 25 cartridges each and boxes of ammunition and a holster containing more bullets.

Police also found a number of prescription drugs in the car, as well as a ticket for an upcoming federal Liberal fundraising dinner where Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre was to be the guest speaker.

Investigators also testified that the car’s license plate had been removed.
