A Quebec high school was evacuated due to a fire Tuesday morning.

The fire happened at the École secondaire Bernard-Gariépy in Sorel-Tracy, about 80 kilometres east of Montreal.

A message to parents published on the school service centre’s website said the students are safe and were relocated to the CEGEP de Sorel-Tracy.

Staff said the telephones and computer systems at the school are not working due to the fire.

School buses will run on their normal hours on Tuesday but the pickup will be at the CEGEP. Parents were told they could pick up their children at noon.

“The school will not be minimally accessible for the next two days. As soon as we are able to, we will inform you of further developments,” the Centre de services scolaire de Sorel-Tracy said on Facebook.

Provincial police were also called to the school to assist firefighters.

The fire department could not say where the fire started, according to Noovo Info.
