ACTON VALE, -- Funeral services were held this afternoon for three Quebec children found dead last weekend in a Drummondville home.

Balloons were released into the sky as mourners filed out of a church packed to capacity in the town of Acton Vale.

In various eulogies, the children were remembered as happy and received plenty of love and attention.

The children's father, Patrick Desautels carried a picture of his three children.

His aunt, France Malo, said he is holding up as best as can be expected.

"He's surrounded by people who love him," said Malo.

The children's mother, Sonia Blanchette, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of five-year-old Lorelie, four-year-old Loic and two-year-old Anais.

Louise Blanchette, the woman's aunt, says the family tried to make today about remembering three beautiful children.

She says it's too soon to lay blame for the tragedy.

Residents who attended the funeral say the family is well known in the community and runs a tree farm in the area.

Two tractors from the farm were parked outside the church and filled with stuffed animals as a tribute to the children.

Sonia Blanchette, 33, will undergo a psychiatric assessment to determine if she's fit to stand trial. Coworkers said she had been despondent about losing custody of her children.

Her next court appearance is Dec. 14.

She has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
