Former Lieutenant Governor Lise Thibault is now in jail.

The 76-year-old woman presented herself at the Quebec City Detention Centre Thursday morning in accordance with a decision rendered Wednesday by Quebec's Court of Appeal.

In 2014 Thibault pleaded guilty to fraud and breach of trust, but unsuccessfully appealed her 18-month sentence. Her lawyer said that her age and her need to use a wheelchair were worthy of clemency.

During her 10 years in office Thibault fraudulently claimed $700,000 in expenses, and had to repay $300,000 of that sum.
