Fire ripped through three homes on the South Shore overnight, destroying all three buildings.

The fire began around 1 a.m. in a house under construction on Voyageurs St. in Mont Saint Hilaire and quickly spread to two neighbouring buildings.

The residents of those homes were forced to evacuate the building and they will only be allowed to return home to salvage what they can.

Nobody was hurt by the fire.

Investigators say the fire was sparked by a faulty heater inside the house under construction, and the exposed wood and building materials let the flames grow quickly.

Damages are estimated at $1,000,000 for the three buildings.
