Fire destroyed a house on the South Shore overnight.
The fire began shortly after midnight at 209 Jeanne Hayet St. in Varennes.
35 firefighters from Varennes and neighbouring boroughs did what they could but were unable to prevent the home from suffering serious structural damage.
Everyone in the home managed to get out safely, and none of the neighbouring buildings were damaged.
Wednesday morning firefighters were able to determine the cause of the fire; it was sparked by gas in an air vent in the garage.
