Driver killed in fiery car crash in Granby, Que.

A person died Tuesday after leaving the road on Highway 10 in Granby, in the Eastern Townships.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers were called to kilometre 71 of Highway 10 around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, following a single-vehicle accident.

“According to preliminary information, the vehicle left the road, hit a rock and then burst into flames. There was only one occupant in the vehicle, who was unable to get out in time,” said SQ spokesperson Laurie Avoine.

A police officer specializing in collision investigations went to the scene, as did an investigator and a fire scene technician. An investigation is underway to shed light on the circumstances of this event.

Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, one of two lanes was open on westbound Autoroute 10 in the area.
