The CEO of the Quebec association of public daycares is kicking off a series of protests Monday morning in Montreal.

Louis Senecal of the AQCPE will be leading a human chain around the St. Edouard CPE on Drolet St. in Villeray, at 8 a.m. Monday.

The protest movement is to draw attention to $120 million in cuts being demanded by the provincial government, and protests are scheduled to take place on a regular basis until February 7, when a large rally will take place in Montreal.

Some daycares say budget cuts will force them to close at the end of February or in March.

Daycares represented by another group, the  Quebec council of educational daycare services (CQSGEE), which represents about 25 percent of the 900 daycares subject to cuts, agreed last week to negotiation sessions where daycare budgets will be reviewed -- but the Quebec Association of public daycares (AQCPE) is rejecting this approach.

The AQCPE is calling for a reversal of the $120 million in cuts.
