MONTREAL - Westbound motorists attempting to leave Highway 20 at St-Jacques Street in NDG have been forced to find alternate routes, causing major headaches during rush hour.

Work on the MUHC Hospital has led to the closure of the exit for up to five months.

The city of Montreal surprised those accustomed to using the exit by announcing the closure less than a week ago, sparking criticism about the short notice.

NDG Councillor Peter McQueen criticized the city for failing to consult with citizens on the traffic changes that the upcoming hospital will bring to traffic in the area.

The highway exit will be closed until roughly June 24.

Motorists are urged to use the Atwater Ave. exit off the Ville-Marie and continue on St-Antoine St. westbound. Traffic officials anticipate chronic congestion at the corner of St. Jacques and Decarie so motorists are advised to avoid the intersection by taking Glen Road.

Alternately motorists can exit highway 15 at St. Luc Queen Mary further north in NDG.
