Boil water notice issued for all Cranbrook residents

The City of Cranbrook has issued a boil water notice for all residents.

According to officials, the problem was caused while crews were doing maintenance and replacing equipment.

“During the work there were two brief occurrences of over chlorinating followed by not chlorinating the city’s water system,” said a story on the city’s website. “Staff were able to quickly correct the disinfection issues and had the disinfection system back to normal operating within 20 minutes.”

Any water used for drinking, washing and brushing teeth should be boiled until further notice.

The water must come to a rolling boil for at least a minute.

The city said not to drink the water at all if it has a strong chlorine smell.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until at least Jan. 20.
