MONTREAL - Firefighters managed to contain a blaze in an apartment complex on Grand Boulevard, but residents were nevertheless temporarily forced from their homes.

The fire broke out at 3421 Grand Blvd at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Michel Girard of the Montreal fire department said it was fully contained by 9:31 am.

Girard said the fire broke out on the second floor of a building and was contained to one apartment, though three apartments in total had damage from smoke, water or fire.

There were about 40 firefighters on the scene. Residents were evacuated from the building but should be allowed to return by the end the day.

Girard said the fire may have started from lit incense that went unattended.

The apartment fire is the second in as many days in Montreal. On Monday, a major fire in Rosemont forced several dozen people from their homes.
