A 17-year-old is dead after his motor scooter was struck by a vehicle in Laval at 4 a.m. Sunday.

The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle that hit the scooter faces criminal charges in connection with the incident.

Laval police say that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, which occurred near the corner of Ste. Rose and Vauquelin, but excessive speed most likely played a part.

The 17-year-old was killed upon impact, while the 21-year old driver was brought to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

A 16-year-old passenger in the car was unhurt in the incident.
