The Black Coalition of Quebec is asking the Attorney General of Canada to possibly press charges against Radio Canada for the portrayal of black people during the annual year in review broadcast, "Bye-Bye."

"There have been many instances where certain remarks were made, racist, inappropriate," said Dan Phillip, president of the coalition. "We are saying that Radio Canada should address every point in these remarks and to make appropirate apologies. Those responsible for Radio Canada... what I said is that they have lost their reason even to exist."

The popular year-end special drew fire this year for some offensive portrayals of women and black people.

Creators Veronique Cloutier, producer and president of Novem, and Andre Morisette, in charge of content for Bye Bye 2008, held a press conference Jan. 9, to address continuing complaints against the broadcast.

Calling the apology lukewarm, misleading and disappointing, the coalition says it will also attend the CRTC hearings when Radio Canada's license is up for renewal.

They have a petition with 2000 signatures against the broadcast.
