Anwar Stewart, 37, is returning to the Alouettes. The team announced Tuesday that Stewart - a defensive end who helped the team win three championships in his 10 years - will join the practice roster and start working out with the team effective immediately.

Stewart played in Calgary with the Stampeders last season.

The Alouettes also announced the signing of defensive end Eze Ibiorato, who played one game with the Hamilton Tiger Cats this season.

The Alouettes also announced that wide receiver Youssy Pierre, 28, of Montreal, has been released, after he expressed his desire to leave the sport.The former Montreal Carabin played in Edmonton last season.

The club also announced that non-import defensive end Ameet Pall will be out of action for some time as he has been placed on the nine-game injured list.

The struggling Alouettes (2-4) next play in Saskatchewan against the Roughriders (5-1) Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
