Tourism Montreal says 2015 was a banner year for visitors to the city.

The agency says 9.6 million people visited the city in 2015 -- a 3.2 percent increase over 2014.

Tourism Montreal says those tourists spent $2.9 billion while in Montreal.

73 cruise ships stopped in Montreal, 29 more than in the previous year.

Trudeau airport handled 15 million passengers, which is a 4.6 percent increase over the previous year, and the largest number of people that have even gone through the terminal.

Hotels reported an average 73 percent occupancy rate, 1.8 percent more than in 2014, and an average 9 percent increase in revenues.

Tourism Montreal is hoping the number of tourists will grow to 10 million for 2017.
