A section of Highway 20 was closed west of Montreal after a collision between several heavy vehicles.

Around 4:30 a.m. a tractor trailer heading east collided with another vehicle that was parked on the right-hand side of the highway in order to protect construction workers. In a chain reaction that vehicle struck a third truck.

Firefighters from Coteau du Lac rushed to the scene and spent hours trying to remove the truck driver from his cabin.

When he was freed the 33-year-old man was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

None of the workers at the scene were injured, but both vehicles that were hit were pushed over.

The highway near Exit 19 was closed for most of the morning as police examined the crash scene in an effort to determine what led to the truck hitting two vehicles.
