Firefighters came to the rescue overnight after a woman fell into the back river.

The woman, 41, was walking with a friend along the shore of the Riviere des Prairies near 68th Ave. and 1st St. at 1:30 a.m. when she slipped and fell into the fast-moving water.

At this point her friend called 9-1-1.

"He called us to say that she couldn't get back to shore so basically we had two boats looking for her and we found her 26 minutes later just a little bit past Highway 15," said Laval firefighter Captain Christian Monette.

By that point she had drifted 1.5 km downstream, so the rescuers pulled the woman into their boat and brought her back to shore.

"There was no sign of hypothermia. We got back to shore and the paramedics went to her and everything went well," said Monette.
